About Special Needs Aquatics

The Darien YMCA is committed to serving all members of the community. We do our best to accommodate all individuals with special needs into our programs. If you or a member of your family requires additional assistance or has a special circumstance, please let us know. For all swim classes below, please call Jim Matthews at 655-8228 x 332 prior to registering so that we can discuss your child’s special needs and swimming experience.
 
All participants must register on-line or at the front desk.  Many of our classes have maximums and we want to make sure we stay within our ratios. 

Preschool Special Needs Swim Lessons…. Ages 3-5  

The Y’s learn-to-swim program for children with developmental disabilities.  The program is designed for children with beginner or intermediate swim skills and will be held in the small pool.  Please call Jim Matthews at 203-655-8228 ext 1332 prior to registering so we can learn about your child’s special needs.

Fees for a 4-week Summer Session:  Members:  $215         Non-members:  $310

Progressive Special Needs Swim Lessons…  Ages 6-12

The Y’s swim program for children ages 6-12 with developmental disabilities.  The program is designed for children with beginner or intermediate swim skills and will be held in the small pool.  Please call Jim Matthews at 655-8228 ext. 1332 to schedule a class.
